The Middleton Landmarks Commission was established in 1972 to safeguard the city's historic past through designation of buildings and properties that will reflect Middleton's cultural, social, economic and political architectural history.

As stated in it's charter, the Commission shall be composed of seven qualified persons, competent and informed in historical, architectural and cultural traditions of the community, to be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by the City Council by majority vote. Members shall be appointed for three year terms and may serve successive terms.
